The Rabbitohs side weren’t the only NRL players to find themselves in a world of hurt on Thursday night when the Melbourne Storm came to Sydney to put on a 50-0 rugby league clinic.
Nicho Hynes, one the Melbourne players who contributed to South Sydney’s humiliating defeat, is believed to have experienced a close call with the city’s most feared organised crime figures in the aftermath of the round 9 fixture.
Arguably the biggest heart throb to lace up the boots for The Storm since Greg Lazarus, Hynes reportedly found himself in the type of trouble that good looking young blokes can find themselves while roaming around the Harbour City.
The dulcet tones of Powderfinger’s Bernard Fanning were permeating through Sydney’s Chinatown as the promising young fullback went on a date with a high-profile local woman he’d met on Darlingurst road earlier that day.
However, after losing ten grand cash on Bondi Beach earlier in the day, Nicho became a target for a dangerous syndicate of Kings gangsters – who gatecrashed his date waving pistols.
It is not yet known why Nicho was on a date with the happily married Australian actress Rose Byrne, a Hollywood superstar who is 17 years his senior.
However, there was no time discuss their age difference while on the run from the drunken crime figures, with Nicho making the executive decision to flee Haymarket on the newly-opened light rail – which the NSW Government built to replace Sydney’s Olympics-era monorail.
The next 24-hours were a whirlwind for the Premiership-winner as he found himself mixing with armed bankrobbers while hiding out at a Western Suburbs safehouse, while the gangsters tore through the city murdering anyone in their path.
Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy says he is relieved to have Nicho home safe in Victoria and has confirmed that he will be starting at fullback this weekend against St George.
Rose Byrne’s publicist has asked our newspaper to refrain from suggesting she is in a relationship with a 24-year-old rugby league player.
