For the first time since the 5th century BC, it seems the Chinese Zodiac predictions might be entirely wrong this year.

Even the name of 2024 is wrong, with very few Australians under the impression that this could really be the Year Of The Dragon.

According to the Chinese Horoscope 2024, the dragon represents authority, prosperity, and good fortune. Those with dragon signs are known for their captivating demeanour, distinct personality, and strong leadership abilities.

While this may be true for individuals who claim the Dragon, it is not true for those who play for the Dragon.

Only hours after halfback recruit Ronald Volkman was ruled out for the year with a shoulder injury yesterday, The St George Illawarra Dragons revealed that another new signing, Corey Allan, has suffered a major knee injury and may also be out for the year.

Allan, who had only just come over from the Sydney Roosters was a leading contender for a centre spot before twisting his knee in a training mishap. Scans later revealed an ACL tear.

Along with the entire club having to rapidly adjust to a change in coach, and a string of legal dramas amongst the playing group, it seems that 2024 is not the year of the dragon at all.

However coach Flanagan says the Dragons have “underachieved” in recent years and nominated semi-finals as the pass mark for his side in 2024.

“I want to be playing finals footy, that’s for sure,” Flanagan said.

“The team and the club has underachieved, we’ve got enough talent here and obviously there’s been some change on and off the field but we expect to play semi-finals next year.

“That’s where we’re heading, we’ve just got to go to work.

When asked what he thought about the Chinese Zodiac, and the rumours that his club are blatantly defying ancient Chinese wisdom, Flanagan said people need to look closer at the horoscope.

“Lot of casual astrologers making comments about our club” he said.

“What they don’t realise is when the Dragon is combined with the nourishing Wood element, 2024 will bring evolution, improvement, and abundance”

“Well, ladies and gentlemen. I am the wood.”

“And 2024 is the perfect time for rejuvenated beginnings and setting the foundation for long-term success.”
