Gene Wilder, the American actor and model who was made famous by the ‘Condescending Wonka’ meme, died Monday at his home in Stamford, Conn. His nephew said he died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He was 83.

Millions of meme-creators around the world have paid tribute to Mr Wilder through meme tributes in the dark galleys of Reddit and 4Chan this morning.

Local meme page admin, The Sultan, says it’s not often you find a grainy j.peg of someone’s face that says exactly what you are thinking, but Mr Wilder was just that.

“He’s facial expression in that particular meme just epitomised the jaded attitude of overweight meme creators across the world,”

“The condescending tone, the painful sarcasm, the lack of any real social skills – it can all be communicated through that one particular meme,”

“It changed the game for so many of us. People, who, until he surfaced on a chatroom in 2009 – didn’t have a voice,”

“He made me my memes so much danker.”

Wilder is survived by his fourth wife Karen Boyer, whom he married in 1991 and his nephew. His sister Corinne, predeceased him in January 2016.
