The High Court has refused to hear the appeal of four-year-old Biloela asylum seeker Tharnicaa Murugappan, clearing the path for the Federal Government to deport them.
The rest of the Australian toddler’s family have already exhausted their legal avenues, leaving only intervention from Immigration Minister Alex Hawke as their only option left to stay in the country.
It marks the first thing that the Morrison Government has been able to achieve since winning power in 2019.
Speaking to the media this morning after receiving backslaps from blokes who openly loath him as Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and Defence Man Peter Dutton, the Prime Minister said this was just the government fulfilling its promise.
“Look, it was the Rudd Government that said if you come here by boat, you will never call Australia home,” said Morrison.
“I’m just keeping that promise to Australians. That piece of Labor Party policy is very important to national security,”
“While I share my deep condolences and share my pain, as a father, it seems it’s time for the Biloela family to be deported back to Sri Lanka, where they will hopefully not face any further persecution.”
The Prime Minister paused and took a deep breath.
“Last night, I walked into the family room at The Lodge and I asked Jenny what she would do. As it turns out, I didn’t have my glasses on and I asked a blanket strewn over an armchair what they thought. Then I remembered that Jenny was at Kirribilli House,” he said.
“So there’s that. Again, the government’s hands are tied on this matter,”
“Would anybody else like to ask me some questions?”
