Hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg has reportedly embarked on the production of a grunge album, blaming the creative decision on unexpected mood swings resulting from a temporary withdrawal from cannabis.
Known globally for his love for marijuana, Snoop Dogg’s decision to take a brief hiatus from his traditional west coast sound was met with shock and disbelief from fans. However, the consequences of this unexpected sobriety have given rise to an entire new fan base.
Close friends of Snoop’s claim the sudden foray into grunge was triggered by what he described as “stoner rage”, a common occurrence to long-term weed smokers that attempt to quit the habit that; “definitely isn’t an addiction I can quit whenever I want”.
This follows the news that Outkast’s lead singer Andre 3000 has decided to release a new album with no lyrics, and instead just a series of harmonious flute-centric improvisational ambient songs.
However, Snoop Dogg is far too awash with angsty rage and introspectiveness to avoid penning any lyrics, and is instead going full Gen-X slacker.
The yet-to-be-named grunge project reportedly features Snoop Dogg strumming an unplugged guitar, experimenting with angsty lyrics that touch on themes ranging from heartbreak to existential dread. Collaborations with grunge legends and a grunge cover of previous classics are said to be in the works.
“I’ve never heard anything like this, it’s almost like Snoop’s rage from the mood swings is giving him the creativity to make some of the best grunge we’ve heard since the 90’s”. Said someone from Snoop’s camp.
“He could single handedly bring back the entire genre at this rate.”
As Snoop Dogg navigates the uncharted territory of grunge, fans are left anticipating the next chapter in the ever-evolving saga of his sound. From West Coast underground stardom, to mainstream success, to that weird Snoop Lion era most fans would rather forget, it’s clear that the 52-year-old is no one trick dogg.
