The American couple that John Mellencamp’s 1982 American Heartland rock classic  ‘Jack & Diane’ was based on say they are very happy to see Donald Trump elected into the White House.

The couple, who were immortalised in the song that spent four weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, say that life isn’t as peachy as it was presented over thirty years ago in the working class American anthem.

“Yeah I got sacked from the factory in 2008. I don’t know what happened but I blame Obama” says Jack.

“We voted for him. First time I’ve voted for a Democrat, let alone a black person, and I lose my job a few months later. Lord knows why we voted for him again in 2012”

Diane, who debutante’d the backseat of Jacky’s car in in year 12, has been addicted to hard painkillers for over twenty years.

“I got hooked on them when Jack injured his knee – they were always lying around the house and it helped my depression at the time”

“He was gonna be a football star but his injury kept him out of the big league. That and all the Latinos that started playing around the time”

Diane says that while she knows that life goes on after sixteen, she is quite worried about the state of her once beautiful country. She also doesn’t like being referred to as a ‘deplorable’ by Hillary Clinton.

“Hillary wasn’t very kind the way she spoke about us. I guess that’s what pushed us over the edge”

“Every one of my kids is obese and out of work. Things have changed, it all changed under Bill Clinton”

“We used to have a good life. Jack worked in a factory in our hometown for $125k a year, I was at home with the kids”

“Now Jack works two jobs with a three hour commute to work on the bus and makes $50k while I have look after my grandchildren so my daughter can work at McDonalds for minimum wage”

“All my sons were too overweight for the military because we don’t have any grocery stores around here”

“Thanks goodness for Trump. He’s going to make America great again”

It is believed that Bon Jovi’s Tommy and Gina from ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’ have also been vocal Trump supporters, as well as everyone that Bruce Springsteen used to sing about.
