A photo of two Townsville kids playing with a high powered Adler A110 has reignited debates surrounding the classification of the controversial rifle.

The two children in the photo, named Bryce (9) and Dugald Wardlaw (10) are the sons of a prominent farmer in the North Queensland area. The picture was taken over the weekend during a family hunting trip in the Daintree Rainforest, where Bryce is believed to have ‘bagged’ his first Cassowary.

“There’s nothing wrong with a bit of safe and supervised Adlin’ – It’ll make a man out of the boys” says father, Craig, who posted a photo of his kids holding the gun to a public Facebook group that advocates the safety of Adlers.

However, loony Greens party officials have condemned the photo and the legality of the weapon in question.

“It’s just too much firepower for any Australian to have access to. Let alone a kid” says NSW Greens Senator Jeremy Buckingham.

“Ban the Adler! These machine guns are ridiculous. They are only made for one thing, and that is shooting people”

The Adler rifle currently sits in the least restrictive Australian gun classification, Category A, meaning that it is relatively easy for licensed gun owners to buy. Category A licences are held by any recreational shooter and limit ownership to the least powerful firearms such as low calibre, bolt-action rifles and shotguns that can take only two cartridges.

However, many Gun Control advocates are arguing that the Adler A110 should be moved to either category C or D, meaning they can only be used by professional shooters.

However, Craig Wardlaw says Australia has gone soft and if the Government tries to take his guns, they better come wearing a Howard-era teflon vest.

“I’m not going to let a bunch of suits walk onto my land and take my hobby away from me. Just last Easter I had Dugald hanging off the side of a tinny in the Gulf with his Adler”

“Two dugongs and an emu. You reckon my boys would be able to hunt that kind of game with a bow and arrow”

“Get a life” he roared.
