At the start of what looks to be a new era for NSW rugby league, it has been reported that Blues coaching staff have kindly requested that Immigration Minister Peter Dutton relax his new laws towards citizenship tests.
Coach Laurie Daley has said that while the long-suffering NSW State Of Origin side has seen success in playing more Indigenous players, it is commonly acknowledged that their greatest players of all time have been what Peter Dutton would consider ‘violent migrants’.
“Some of the things we saw Hopoate (Tonga) do on the field. Jesus…”
“He probably wouldn’t have gotten past Dutton with that kind of behaviour… But we probably wouldn’t have won so many matches in the nineties either” said Daley.
It is beleived a recent report by the AIS and NRL has found that while Queensland has a reputation as a rugby league breeding ground, New South Wales are better known for their import quality.
Statisticians and analysts can all agree that NSW rugby league would have lost far more Origin series if it wasn’t for the loyal contribution of Australian migrant communities, which produced many violent players, such as: Mario Fenech (Malta), Benny Elias (Lebanon), Tommy Raudonikis (Lithuanian).
The contribution of non-violent migrants has also been noted, with the highest-point-scorer in the history of the NRL, Hazim El-Masri, and the British-born Burgess brothers.
