When it comes to the big smoke, Broken Hill local Brucey Winston has seen enough bloody skyscrapers and taxi drivers to last him a lifetime.
Even though it’s technically only just down the road, Brucey hasn’t wanted to visit Adelaide more than three times in his life. He says it’s too much.
“Mate, there’s plenty of girls down there. But it’s just too much” he says.
Like many Broken Hill residents, Brucey has disregarded the NSW state government and has assumed the South Australian capital of Adelaide as his local centre.
“It’s only 500 kilometres away. That’s why were are on Adelaide time”
“But I tell you what, It’s like another world down there”
“The beeping, the parking fines, the weird bloody seafood rolled up in seaweed. I’m not interested in visiting Sydney anytime soon, that’s for sure”
“Everyone reckons Sydney is even busier. I was going to go visit for the Olympics a few years back but chickened out”
After a three-day trip last November for the Adelaide cricket test, Brucey says he’s seen more than enough of how people live when they are all cramped up in a city like that.
“They’ve also got these joints where you can cook your own steak. Not too bad”
After close to eight months breathing in the freshly polluted air of the Silver City, Brucey says his next big trip might be to Wagga, or Mildura.
“We’ll see how we go. The missus wants to try this pesto stuff they keep talking about on TV”
