Not even a full 12 months after the nation legalised gay marriage and it was assumed that the idea of discriminating against people on their basis of their sexual orientation was a thing of the past, the Liberal Party’s far-right faction’s existential crisis is continuing to make life hard for Prime Minister Morrison.
As of late last week, the entire Australian news cycle is now dedicated to discussing whether or not gay students and teachers should be allowed to work at religious schools, who as of last month, receive billions of dollars in funding and make up 35% of our nation’s education system.
While no one has even bothered asking any Islamic School Councils what they think, mainly because their religion isn’t valued as dearly as the one with the wine and bread, far-right commentators across the country are demanding the powers that be shut up and leave these laws no one knew about until six days ago alone.
One local patriot, Herman Shurgess (34), says that not being able to sack gay people is about as unAustralian as allowing small country towns he’s never been to build mosques for their Muslims residents.
“What about religious freedoms?” asks one local patriot.
“What about the good old fashioned Aussie tradition of sacking gay employees?”
“This is like Bendigo all over again!”
“Political correctness has given us gay teachers and mosques!”
