The heartland of Australian rugby league, who have been surprisingly absent from this year’s NRL finals series, have realised that the team they chose tonight might have been the wrong one.
It’s the one NRL team furthest away from the Tweed, but it’s also not in Bondi, which makes it the most dignified team, but at this rate, not the winners.
After being forced to weigh up the performances of several prominent Queenslanders that are playing in both sides of tonight’s Grand Final, the Deep North have decided that the Melbourne Storm is basically a Queensland side. But they aren’t playing like Queenslanders.
“It’s true. Look at the fellas playing for them. They wouldn’t be anything with Queensland and Queensland wouldn’t be anything without them. But they aren’t looking like they’ve been coached by Mal” said one Queenslander, Mackay man, Gareth Langpark
Especially when considering the Queenslandness of Will Chambers, who had previously played rugby union in the Queensland Reds’ 2011 Super premiership, the sunkissed Northerners have no option other than to support the Purple Tide.
“Yeah, well the way Billy and Cam have been playing. It really takes me back to the glorious era of rugby league that was the decade of dominance. The eight in a row.” says on Cairns resident, Sunny Fanning.
“Like, they’ve done a lot for us. So yeah, we owe the Storm a lot for keeping those guys fresh for eight seasons in a row”
