While banned Australian cricket star David Warner has received severed backlash for his actions over during a park cricket match over the weekend, in true Warner/Falzon fashion, it looks as if the publicity will come to good use, somehow
This follows the news walked off because of an opposition sledge while playing in Sydney local cricket.
Warner, who turned 32 on Saturday, soon continued his innings and made 114 not out for Randwick-Petersham against Western Suburbs.
Warner had made 35 on Saturday when he reportedly told an umpire he was removing himself from the game after being niggled a little bit by some run-of-the-mill park cricketers.
However, Warner’s manager and publicist to the stars, Roxy Jacenko has managed to turn these lemons into lemonade – after managing to successfully tee up a lucrative endorsement deal for the suspended vice-captain.
Warner will front the 2018 test series not as a player, but as the star of a heavily rotated advertisement scheduled to play almost as much as the KFC ads.
The new Johnnie Walker campaign ‘That’s Drinks, Gentlemen’ will be aimed up at upper-middle-class Australian consumers of red label scotch whiskey.
“It’s for people who just wanna call drinks early” said a spokesperson for the brand.
“Its for people who have decided they’ve dealt with enough for the day. Be that at 4’oclock in the arvo, or after 35 runs in a suburban park cricket match.”
“Johnnie Walker would like to congratulate Ms Jacenko for somehow turning this brief sports-related controversy into a commercial opportunity for both Warner and our company, and herself”
It is not yet known why Warner will be wearing full cricket kit throughout the new campaign.
