In a defining move, the US president-elect Donald Trump has decreed he will conduct all official meetings with foreign leaders and advisors using no more than 140 characters per speaker.
Buoyed by the impact of his @realDonaldTrump twitter account, the real estate mogul announced the move via social media Tuesday.
“@realDonaldTrump such a success, my popularity thru roof. ALL official business to be run like tweets from today,” he tweeted.
At a press conference, incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer said foreign leaders would need to become fluent in Twitter speak to be taken seriously at face to face meetings.
“They’ll have a chance to say ‘heart!’ after @realDonaldTrump’s comments or shout ‘Retweet, retweet’ if they really like it.”
Mr Spicer waited for 30 seconds before adding, “#Leaders will get more attention by maximizing hashtags or including @realDonaldTrump in their response.”
He said foreign leaders must follow two simple rules during the meetings.
“They’ll need more than a million followers on twitter to be taken seriously,” he said.
“The president-elect is allowed two 140 character comments a meeting as well.”
Trump supporter Gene Sleishman was proud of Mr Trump’s move and said he now understands politics much better through the Republican’s tweets.
“Some people think governing America is hard, but really it’s like a giant game of monopoly and Trump knows,” he said.
“LOCK HER UP really means GO TO JAIL… GO STRAIGHT TO JAIL.”
Teacher Adele Smyth said the president-elect’s use of full caps had helped her deal with troublesome students.
“I just yell ‘APOLOGISE’ or ‘COMPLETE FRAUD’ at misbehaving students now,” she said.
“Donald’s helped me realise I don’t have to explain myself any further.”
Mr Spicer said the rules would not apply to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Mr Putin’s requested meetings be held using emoticons,” he said.
“He’s posing for several personal ones as we speak.”
