Sydney school zones are feeling like a staff Christmas party this week, as long-suffering parents bid farewell to their long-suffering kids after four long months of home learning.
Kindergarten, year 1 and year 12 students are back in the classroom full-time as of yesterday, after being in lockdown for more than 100 days.
The rest of the schooling cohort will be joining at the end of the month, but for now it’s just the little ones and seniors.
Teachers are to be wearing masks at all times, as well as high school students. Primary school students are recommended to wear masks but it is only mandatory for the well-behaved kids who won’t make a scene.
Teachers have been asked to keep windows open as much as possible to improve ventilation and schools may have to close on a temporary basis if a student tests positive for the virus.
There were excited scenes at one primary school in South Sydney today, as complete strangers bonded over their newfound freedom.
With a large portion of Sydney parents not yet back at work, families with primary school age kids currently find themselves in a limbo that feels a lot like school camp.
“EVERYONE!!” shouted one local mum, Izzy Shehadie.
“THERE’S AN EARLY OPENER TWO BLOCKS FROM HERE”
“GO FIND A 24-HOUR PARK AND LETS MEET THERE IN TWENTY MINUTES!!!
The bold plan was met with cheers from families of all backgrounds, as their kids wandered across the school lawns.
At time of press, a group of thirty parents were taking up six different tables and taking advantage of the pre-lunch drink specials at a discreet pokie dive bar in a nearby industrial estate.
