With the announcement of an official inquiry into the treatment of retired racehorses by the Queensland Premier today, people from within the industry have called for the scope of the investigation to be adequately broad.
The inquiry was announced by Annastacia Palaszczuk following the disturbing and sickening vision aired on the ABC’s 7:30 last week detailing the treatment of racehorses in a Queensland Abbatoir.
The independent inquiry will investigate the treatment of retired racehorses and allegations of animal cruelty at abattoirs.
Calls have since grown for the inquiry to also investigate instances of fashion cruelty at all major racecourses.
“Obviously the appaling practices of the racing industry which no one seems to know anything need to be investiagted first and foremost,” said an Industry spokesperson today.
“But we would also urge the inquiry to investigate whether appropriate actions have been taken to address the instances of fashion cruelty.”
