There are few things someone who knows nothing about pregnancy can get away with asking before their limited knowledge is found out, and one of those is the topic of weird cravings.
It’s a known fact that pregnant women crave strange things, but as one pregnant woman is explaining to The Advocate this afternoon, that doesn’t mean that it’s not fucking annoying.
“The amount of times I have been asked about my weird cravings is out of control” says Vicky Smith, a Betoota Heights woman who is pregnant with twins.
“Like, read a book, there are so many other things about pregnancy that I could talk about”
Although an annoying question, Vicky begrudgingly reveals she does have some weird cravings.
“I can’t stop eating musk sticks with melted cheese”
“The thought of it disgusts me, but I don’t know what to tell you, it’s delicious”
“That’s another reason why I don’t like people asking that question, because you tell them about your weird cravings, and they shun you like you’re spicy cough positive”
“At least I’m not one of those weirdos who craves crayons”
Vicky is referring to what’s known as Pica, which is the desire to eat non-food substances. In these cases, women crave things like laundry starch, crayons or dirt – all of which might be due to an iron or zinc deficiency and you should definitely go and see your doctor.
More to come.
