NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the government will shut down a dance music festival after two people died and another three were left critically ill after the event on Saturday.
Police said as many as 700 people sought medical assistance during the Defqon.1 music festival in Penrith, attended by about 30,000.
“We will do everything we can to shut this down, I don’t want to see this event happen again,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“We’ve already shut down all the nightclubs to prevent the off-chance of someone being punched to death, but there’s still a couple of annual musical festivals left where young people can get into trouble”
After receiving an instant hit of approval ratings from Baby Boomers who are blaming the hedonistic Australian youth for the imminent crash of their unsustainable housing bubble, Premier Gladys Berejiklian has decided to take it one further, by exploring the idea of banning the airplay and promotion of any musical acts that play the type of music that mix well with recreational drugs.
“Forget pill-testing. These kids wouldn’t be trying to do this stuff if that music wasn’t available. We’ve banned the nightclubs, festivals and pub rock venues, but I think the real issue was the music all along”
Berejiklian says she’s certain that banning 95% of all genres of music will be the key to stop alcohol fuelled violence and drug use amongst the four-million young people in New South Wales.
“Whatever happened to getting down to a bit of Ben Lee, or some of that Hillsong stuff Mike Baird used to play at party meetings”
