In some tragic news for Australian TV, the homegrown soap opera classic ‘Neighbours’ is officially ending its run after 37 years.

It was announced last month that the programme will no longer continue beyond the current season, after four decades of high-octane drama.

On top of the soap opera’s spectacular character arcs and plot twists – including heartbreaking adultery, hundreds of car accidents, out of control teenage house parties, and more than one diagnosis of the incredibly uncommon temporary condition known as Transient Global Amnesia – viewers will also cherish the memories of their beloved recurring characters.

Namely, the juvenile delinquent turned local solicitor, Jarrod Vincenzo Rebecchi.

Collaquiolly known to both Erisborough locals and audiences as ‘Toadfish’ – the Neighbours stalwart will be forever immortalised as a bloke who rooted the house down, despite spending most of his adult life rocking a mullet, goatee and about 20-30 extra kegs.

Toadfish’s long list of lovers, colloquially known as ‘Toadie’s Angels’ all have nothing but kind words to describe their relationships with suburban legal professional, which suggests that on top of being a really good bloke – he must be a cracker in the sack.

Unfortunately, Toadie’s relentless womanising has proven impossible for the TV producers to sustain – after it became evident that there are no more fish out in the sea for this iconic pantsman.

A spokesperson for production company Fremantle said: “It is with sadness that after nearly 37 years and almost 9000 episodes broadcast, we are confirming that Neighbours will cease production in the summer.

“Unfortunately, the storylines are now struggling… Because it has become clear to our script editors and casting agents that every single babe within 200 kilometres of Erinsborough has taken a chode from the Toad”
