A local Triple J listener has capitalised on a visit to his hometown, stopping past his old school uniform shop to buy a new pair of kicks.
Over the weekend it’s believed 25-year-old musician / artist / barista Jamie Clements, stopped into the uniform store at Betoota’s St Bruce’s Catholic College and made some updates on his current wardrobe.
Speaking to Uniform shop manager and school mother Cathleen Mathews (46), the small town guitar prodigy is reported to have made a number of eyebrow raising purchases.
“We open every Saturday for families to come in, I sure got a shock to see Jamie knocking on the flyscreen door at 8:55am in the morning,” said Matthews.
“I don’t remember every ex-student but of course Jamie played Joseph in our school production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’, and honestly who could forget that voice.”
“Initially he said he was just browsing but sure enough he bought a new pair of black Clarks Daytona shoes and a few pairs of grey slacks that were three sizes too small!”
“I told him they were from the Year 10 bucket but he didn’t seem to care, it was a little weird to see him wanting to wear his school uniform again.”
Rocking a new pair of full grain leather brogues and elephant grey twill pants, the one time community radio host told The Advocate he was looking forward to debuting the new shoes at the Glebe farmers market this week.
“If you’re in design school then you know it’s all about the Catholic Detention-Core aesthetic at the moment,” said Clements
“You can’t be seen round the Inner West without black brogues, a tote and some milk stained shirt from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.”
“But I’ve had so much trouble buying shoes in the city, last time I stopped into a local boarding school they called the cops on me.”
“So while I’m home I thought why not return to the place where it all began. At $89 for a pair of Enmore Creepers, can’t go wrong hey!”.
