One of the “journalists” across town at The Betoota Bugle has told a local finance reporter’s Facebook group this morning that he just can’t help writing articles aimed at striking fear into the hearts of investors around the Diamantina Shire.

Bruce Aldavison wrote that he ‘couldn’t help but be a fear-mongering little bitch’ this morning because it’s driving a lot of clicks towards toward the paper.

As the last News Corp broadsheet left in the Queensland Channel Country, The Bugle has a responsibility to scare the living shit out of ordinary people living in our region in an effort to make then fall into line behind whatever pathetic rhetoric the government is pedalling at the time.

This responsibility has extended to terrifying Mum and Dad investors around town with a number taking to social media to ask what this means for their retirement.

“Whoops,” laughed Aldavison.

He spoke briefly to our reporter via the Wickr backchannel that exists between our two newspapers to make sure we don’t end up at the same pub.

Last time our papers met in a licensed establishment, The Advocate’s editor, Clancy Overell was involved in an altercation with The Bugle’s then-chief-of-staff which resulted in a currently unlinked and unsolved triple homicide in the Lake Betoota Nature Reserve.

“Look, I don’t really know what’s going to happen. Pre-market data coming out of the US is pretty positive at the moment. I don’t really care, either. Writing articles telling people their savings is gone and they’re going to die from pangolin flu is much more fun.”

More to come.
