The gap between the two binary genders is sadly still widening after a young lady egged a conservative politician this afternoon and received a paltry amount of likes on social media for it – compared to a young man who committed a similar act a few weeks ago which was met international fanfare and internet praise.

Egg Girl threw an egg at Prime Nightwatchman Scott Morrison this morning in Albury and has since been widely condemned for doing it.

Facebook and Instagram posts made in the aftermath of the incident have failed to net an appropriate number of likes for such an act of civil disobedience.

In fact, a number of social media monitors and commentators have outlined that Egg Girl has received almost 9000% less praise online than Egg Boy did for a similar crime.

That fact highlights a need for gender equality in egging, says one local university lecturer.

Diane Carter from the South Betoota Polytechnic College of Gender told The Advocate this afternoon that more needs to be done to make sure females who egg conservative politicians are given as much praise and backslaps as their male counterparts.

“In a word, I’m disgusted and disappointed,” said Carter.

“Just because Egg Girl’s egg didn’t splatter comically everywhere and just because she attempted to egg a sitting Prime Minister, doesn’t mean what she did is any less courageous than what Egg Boy did,”

“This is typical of modern Australia. Women and the things they accomplish are still considered second-rate and that needs to change before anything else can. I’m just so angry.”

The Advocate reached out to The Office of the Nightwatchman for comment but has yet to receive a reply.

More to come.
