In some news that comes as a shock to few, the AFL has once again revealed that it has engrained racism within its game.
The reminder comes as Southern and Western AFL fans line up to boo another proud Indigenous man.
Sydney Swans superstar Buddy Franklin was routinely booed at the MCG during their game against Collingwood on Sunday, creating a scene eerily similar to one of the most shameful chapters in Australian sport.
Collingwood has since apologised for and condemned the booing, something it was unable to do when a couple of former notable figures were at the helm.
Collingwood Captain Darcy Moore and Coach Craig Moore have however come out to condemn their fans booing, in a show of solidarity that was not publicly offered up by many players and coaches during the nation wide booing of Adam Goodes into retirement.
Some rare notable good blokes in the elitist AFL media have come out to also condemn the booing and call for it to end, while the usual crowd have been climbing over each other to tell people how the booing of an Indigenous player has nothing to do with race.
The examples of young Jason Horne Francis and Jack Ginnivan coping some booing previously (which all media figures immediately called to stop) have been offered up as proof as to why fans of a noted racist club who started the booing of Adam Goodes and where a black player was called ‘Chimp’ – are not boing another Indigenous man because they are racist.
Nothing has been said by the AFL, an organisation run by elite private school boys, who are responsible for the 25% of the draft every year coming from the top 11 schools in Melbourne.
It’s believed that they may hold fire on saying anything to protect someone outside their boys club until documentaries are made revealing their shameful inaction.
More to come.
