The inevitable has happened in the Ashes series overnight.

Not the English cricket team dropping catches, but the Just Stop Oil protestors making their way onto the field to disrupt play.

Boasting a couple of bags of orange powder paint, the activists managed to get out to the middle just after the first over of the day, causing the old Toffs in the crowd to scoff haughtily and the usual suspects to carry on about sport and politics not mixing.

The momentary delay in play came after warnings from the English Cricket Board that a pitch invasion was highly likely, with players advised to stay away from the activists.

That advice wasn’t headed by English Wicketkeeper Johnny Bairstow, who managed to catch something for the first time this series by grabbing one of the protestors and carrying him off the field – something which definitely had nothing to do with him letting out a little bit of frustration.

However, questions have now been raised about the whereabouts of the ‘woke’ leader of the Australian cricket team, who mysteriously vanished after David Warner and Usman Khawaja went out to the middle.

The athlete who famously decided to actually have an opinion on something that isn’t field placements and bowling orders reportedly disappeared for a period of time just before the start of play.

“Yeah, I think he was on the porcelain or something,” said Steve Smith in between shadow batting shots after the days play.

“Not sure where he went.”

Pat Cummins was unavailable for comment but reportedly asked our reporter to consider a new study on the tidal wave technology.

More to come.
