As voters in five seats across the country are being forced back to the polls, our next four years of federal government could be determined in the next few weeks.
Four of these by-elections prompted by the dual citizenship fiasco, namely the re-contesting Longman Labor MP Susan Lamb. Who will be the first cab off the rank in this weekend’s North Brisbane by-election.
A new poll, published in the Daily Telegraph, so arguably not an accurate one, shows Federal Labor risks losing the crucial Queensland seat of Longman, after One Nation decided to preference the Coalition.
However, while experts and analysts dilly dally about political disconnects and a general inability to inspire even the remotest emotional response from voters, locals from within the electorate are loving their time in the sun.
“People haven’t cared this much about Caboolture since we all got tricked into voting for Susan Lamb because of the text message that looked like it came from Medicare” said one local, Sinead (55, sales).
“Now it looks like we’ll probably be going back to Liberal, but it’s an actual adult this time”
Another local, Kevan (33) says the journalists currently travelling to the electorate on a half-hearted by-election media bus should come down to the Morayfield Costco car park on Friday night.
“They do burn outs on Fridays and drags on Thursdays” he said.
“You’ll have to leave the TV cameras at home but GoPros are ok”
“It’s so sick”
