The Royal Princess Has A Name
The Royal Princess Has A Name

The princess was born at 8.34am, weighing 8lbs 3oz – just 3oz less than Prince George when he arrived in July 2013.

She is the first princess to be born into the British monarchy in 25 years. The last was Prince Andrew’s daughter Princess Eugenie in 1990.

Covered in a shawl and with a bonnet over her head to protect her from the early evening chill, she slept right through her big moment as a beaming Duke and Duchess introduced her to the waiting world outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington at 6.12pm.

The proud parents then left for home at Kensington Palace with their new daughter, who had earlier met big brother Prince George at the hospital.

We thought we would have to wait at least 48 painstaking hours to hear her name. Well it seems not.

With a quick costume change, both Kate and Will were able to get back out in front of cameras to announce the new royal’s name.

“Charlene, Princess Of Cambridge”

While the name does not appear to be very “regal” – it seems the name was Kate Middleton’s choosing. Named after the iconic television character, Charlene Robinson, played by Kylie Minogue.

However, Princess Charlene I of Cambridge is not the first royal Charlene.

Charlene Lynette Wittstock is a former Zimbabwean swimmer who, after marrying Prince Albert II, became Princess of Monaco. Her rise from a common middle-class family to queen-in-waiting is not dissimilar to Kate Middleton’s – who is said to have named the princess in homage to the Monegasque princess.

Although, that’s not the only reason why.

It has been revealed that the Duchess of Cambridge has also been a lifelong fan of the Australian soap opera, Neighbours.

An excited new father, Prince William spoke to AAP reporters moments ago.

“Kate has always loved Neighbours and has always loved Kylie Minogue – so we thought we would name the princess after Kylie Minogue’s character from Neighbours”

With thousands of online bookmakers taking bets on the new princesses name, it would appear the one her parents settled on is also an adaption of the number one pick, according to English punters.

The top 5 number one picks for the Royal Princesses name were as follows:

1. Charlotte

2. Alice

3. Elizabeth

4. Margaret

5. Rhianna

It is not yet known what the current Queen thinks of her great-granddaughters name, however early reports state that she is also a fan of Kylie Minogue’s character from the iconic Australian television institution.
