A Brisbane woman who recently moved to Melbourne is today finding out the hard way that choosing a new home solely for the aesthetics is not always a good idea.
After being offered a marketing job just a stone’s throw from Fitzroy, Chelsea Cunningham [24] instantly went on the hunt for one of the gorgeous terrace houses she’d only ever seen in Wickham Terrace – because if you’re going to move to Melbourne, you have to have the whole Melbourne experience.
However, as someone who was used to summer days all year around and an apartment with a central heating system, Chelsea had been woefully under prepared for the unrelenting wind and freezing temperatures, which had essentially turned her room into an esky.
She chats to our reporter about her mistake, and admits she misses living in a state that only had one season.
“I’ve always loved terrace houses”, Chelsea admits, “My room even has a fireplace.”
“It doesn’t work, but I got to put fairy lights across it, which is the absolute peak of interior design.”
“It’s a Pinterest wet dream.”
“But it’s FUCKING FREEZING.”
Despite buying an assortment of thick woollen socks and a heated blanket, Chelsea says nothing can remove the whirling mass of icy air that permanently lingers in that room.
“I don’t know if it’s normal or if maybe this home was built on a burial ground or something.”
“I miss my ugly apartment.”
More to come.
