A millennial Marketing Manager has today realised she’s officially ticked over into the ‘older colleague category’, after spending an entire day baffled by the constant barrage of slang words mentioned in a single office meeting.

Jen Bowen, 32 had been well aware this time would come, but had idea just how comfortable Gen Z are using slang language in a professional setting – or how much they love to use the word ‘slay’, even when it doesn’t make sense.

But after being tasked with her first junior employee, Zoe, Jen has come to learn that she’s just going to have to get used to it – even if it’s starting to grate on her nerves.

“Sooo, I’ve had a meeting with Debra from Britta’s Flowers and they said they’re really happy with how the campaign is going, slaaay!”, said Zoe, during this morning’s roundup meeting.

“Debra even mentioned upping the retainer to Gold membership and potentially adding on some of their out of state locations!”

“I’ve got to say, SEO team has really slayed this one!”

“Jeremy has gotten back to me about updating the website headers and says he’ll have it done by the end of the day and – oops sorry, computer froze hang on, hahaha slay, and Julie will have her content pieces by end of week.”

Jen informs The Advocate that she almost considered banning the word from the workplace, when she remembered her cringe YOLO phase.

“It’s a rite of passage, I suppose.”

More to come.
