A caravan park matriarch has spoken to The Advocate today, offering her top tips for a seamless Christmas holiday season.
Having spent the last 30 years travelling up and down the east coast of Australia, whilst towing the prized family highway mansion, local Betoota mum of four Julie Andrews knows a thing or two about a camping setup, and she has a Big4 loyalty membership to prove it.
Having spent several seasons at the BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park in Helensvale, Julie has also done stints at Caloundra, Cotton Tree, Cairns and has even made it down south to see what the caravan parks are like in Nambucca Heads.
But no matter where her prized Jayco caravan parks up for summer, Julie says she always has a bag of gold coins ready for day four or five of the trip.
“Gold coins are hard to come by,” Julie told our reporter, as she popped a bottle of Wolf Blass Red Label Chardonnay and poured it into her favourite plastic camping flute.
“So I keep my eye out for them all year,” nodding to a trusty calico bag of gold shrapnel on the table.
“But a little preparation means you don’t have to go asking the local coffee shop to split your $20 note, and you’re also first in line when the laundry block opens up.”
A seasoned veteran, who knows how to get bang for her buck when it comes to booking powered sites, Julie told The Advocate she’s considering writing a book to support the thriving caravan economy.
“Since the pandemic, so many novices have started coming into these parks, but you can spot them a mile away,” lamented Julie.
“I see them dragging in TVs, coffee machines, and even those portable showers, they’ve got all the gear and no idea.”
“Who needs a shower tent when there’s a perfectly good shower block here, BCF must be laughing themselves all the way to the bank.”
More to come.
