A suspected member of a far-left militant group behind the live hostage situation involving a Turkish prosecutor in an Istanbul courthouse, is not really that keen on people seeing the lower half of his face, according to reports.
While reportedly demanding that the police officer allegedly responsible for the killing of a teenager at a 2013 protest make a live confession on television, the gunmen claiming to be affiliated with the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front, decided to mix things up and keep his identity hidden.
The extremist organization in question is regarded as a terrorist group by the US, Europe and Turkey.
During the course of the hostage situation, the group released images on social media purporting to show the prosecutor in charge of the (aforementioned) Berkin Elvin case with a gun held to his head, along with a list of demands.
They issued a deadline of 3.36pm local time (8.36am ET) for those demands to be met or they will shoot the hostage, according to translations published by Turkish media.
Despite the fact that every single registered gun in the Turkish capital was aimed and waiting for the perpetrator, and the fact that he himself had a gun pointed at another man – signifying a “kill or be killed” attitude, the extremist made it very clear that he doesn’t want to show his face to the world.
Early reports suggest that this may be due to the fact that he is also an online privacy advocate.
