After a huge day of protests across the country, the Attorney General has tried to create a weird smokescreen to prevent people from asking for an independent inquiry into his behaviour.
With the March4Justice rallies demanding action to be taken on the toxic culture in politics, as well as gendered discrimination, violence and harassment – Paid Leave Porter has refused to comment on the public groundswell.
But after squeezing his way through a local supermarket’s avocados, the man on generous paid mental health leave that hordes of people can only dream of, confirmed that he is trying to sue the ABC for defamation.
Despite supposedly not knowing the detail of the allegations made against him, Paid Leave Porter says is taking the public broadcaster to the cleaners.
The proceedings he is starting, despite being on mental health leave and unable to answer questions about the allegations, relate to an article that reported a letter had been sent to Prime Minister Scott Morrison containing a historical allegation of rape against a serving Cabinet minister.
Mr Porter has denied the allegation and his lawyers said the article made false allegations against him – which he says are wrong but refuses to front an inquiry that would seemingly clear his name.
“Nope, I’m not answering questions on that,” said the man who has taken time off to sort out defamation proceedings instead of dealing with the allegations.
“Anyway, there’s another shop up the road, I’m going to find some more avocados.”
