The Australian Labor Party has today revealed to the nation that they are really starting to feel themselves.
Less than a fortnight after winning government, and just a couple of days after securing a majority, the ALP has decided to bring up some of the big issues for people who live less than 15 minutes from a capital city’s CBD.
With the Minister’s now sworn in, the government has decided to unveil a grand plan to make the nation a Republic.
Assitant Minister for the Republic Matt Thistlethwaite has decided to grab some headlines by revealing a plan to make the country a Republic in their second term of government, should they be re-elected.
With growing inequality, stagnant wages, a housing crisis, interest rates on the rise, the cost of living shooting up, our education system detiorating, staff shortages across the medical system, and the dangers of climate change not even close to dealth with, the Labor Party has decided to tip the hat to people who think becoming a republic is a priority.
Often talked about after a couple of expensive bottles of wine in gorgeous free-standing inner-city houses, the issue of transitioning from a constitutional monarchy to a republic is a favourite topic for our well-heeled elite.
A nationwide vote on the issue in the form of a referendum previously failed in 1999, with plenty of people presumably non plussed about the symbolism of who the fuck is our ‘head of state.’
Despite the dismissal of a Prime Minister being nearly half a century ago, the Labor Party has now decided to re-hash the issue to show the people of Australia the care about why people’s power bills are going up so much.
More to come.
