A young man from a good home who’s enjoying his salad days living hand-to-mouth in a rapidly gentrifying suburb before he moves home to save a deposit or gets handballed a few hundred grand from a senior family member has condemned the new James Bond movie, telling his friends who agree with him on everything that it’s five big yikes out of five.
David James Collins, who introduces him as DJ Collins, explained to our reporter that the new James Bond is off the yikes scale from what he’s heard.
“Of course, I haven’t seen it,” he told The Advocate via telephone this morning.
“But James Bond is a dinosaur and a relic of the 20th century. I don’t need to see it to know it’s extremely problematic and is pretty much another example of how our capitalistic society cashes in on entrenched racism and misogyny,”
“It shouldn’t be a part of the future, unless the new James Bond is played by someone who I deem to be acceptable.”
On the scale of yikes, a one yikes film would be the recently rediscovered ‘Wake In Fright’, a 1971 Australian psychological thriller film directed by Ted Kotcheff.
Even though the content is extremely offensive, its kitsch value overrides anything that might upset anyone.
“It’s a good film – in like a portal-to-the-past kind of way,” he said.
“Aside from that, it’s garbage.”
As the front moved in over Betoota, the phone line went dead and our reporter decided against trying to reach DJ to conclude the interview.
