IN JANUARY Kanye West told us he was the “Only One” – with his much-talked about collaboration with Paul McCartney. A world first for cross-genre collaborations and the first single released by Kanye since his last solo album “Yeezus” in 2013.
It was during these sessions in the studio that McCartney, the elderly icon of rock music, referred to Kanye West as being “even more of a genius than John Lennon”.
We thought it was bizarre, but it worked. A Chicago rapper teaming up with a former-Beatle, it felt like a one time thing. Well apparently not.
Today it has been revealed that Mr. 305 himself, Pitbull, has been working on an ENTIRE studio album with Ringo Starr. The surviving drummer from “The first rock and roll band” – set to be released in time for the 2015 college Spring-Break
The albums title is Love/ Hate, something that both musicians decided on. Paying homage to the parallels in the two artist’s respective careers. Two men that have lead careers as much loved musical geniuses – despite being constantly criticised and compared to their peers.
As the 74-year-old Ringo Starr, puts it:
“Pitbull and I are kindred spirits. We represent the journeymen of American music. The Art Garfunkels, the Vanilla Ices, the Donnie Wahlburg’s. Pitbull and Ringo Starr…. the other guys”
However, Pitbull, the American rapper from Miami – feels this album means much more
“Its just Mr. 305 doing what he dos (sic) – this time I got a Beatle onboard, we gonna make those college girls take their shirts off to this shit right here. Ringo and Pitbull, baby [laughs]”
Pitbull’s first recorded mainstream performance was on a solo track from Lil Jon’s 2002 album Kings of Crunk, which featured Pitbull rapping over Jon’s production. In 2004, Pitbull released his debut album titled M.I.A.M.I. (short for Money Is A Major Issue). By far his most popular record was on the 2009 album Rebelution, the world-renound hit single hit single “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)”.
The album’s release date will be timed to coincide with the ‘Ringo And Pitty American Spring Break Tour’. One that will see Ringo on a tour bus for the first time in several decades.
So far, the album has been widely panned by critics, with Rolling Stone Magazine suggesting that the collaboration has been “The worst thing to happen to rock music since the Manson Family,”
“Worse than the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash. Worse than Buddy Holly’s plane crash! This is the worst thing ever.”
