DESPITE BEING ELECTRIC ON Sunday afternoon, finding intercepts and chipping over the defensive line, 27-year-old technology consultant Brett Sookman feels 70 today after a weekend game of touch footy.

With adrenaline still coursing through his veins after UFC202, Sookman and a dozen other friends grabbed the footy and headed to their local park to blow off some steam.

“That was when things began to unravel,” he said.

“Each of us had a gut full of piss and lungs that must look like garbage bags by now. I think everybody went a bit too hard – by the end of it, people were dropping shoulders and slapping ‘tapping’ each other a bit too hard for it to be considered social,”

“Mate I’m stiffer than a boogie board today. My back’s fucked and I’m walking like I’m an old man. I’m only 27, what’s wrong with me? But yeah, it was good to blow the cobwebs out. You should’ve been me but. I was on fire, scoring four-pointers like somebody should be paying me to do so.”

As the sun began to set over the East Brisbane skyline, it suddenly dawned on Sookman and his mates as their bodies began to cool down – trapping deadly lactic acid in their muscles, sealing their fate.

Rather than have the appropriate stretch down and cool down period, Brett simply picked up his shoes and walked home to family size supreme pizza and reality television.

“I look forward to going something similar this weekend.” he said.
