The nation’s youth have been issued an interesting piece of advice today, from a man who has been there and done it all.
Speaking from the confines of his 6 bedroom, quadruple garage, quarter acre block in Betoota Heights, Bill Simpson (64) revealed that young people need to pull their fingers out a bit.
“You can’t just live a life of luxury and expect to own your dream home in your dream suburb,” said the man who bought a house at 19, paid it off by 30, and has never taken less than a month’s holiday every single year.
“If today’s generation are serious about owning a home, then they need to make sacrifices,” he explained.
“Cutting down on the iceberg lettuce is a start.”
“I mean, don’t go whinging about how hard things are and you’ll never own a home when you are pissing your money away on fancy garden salads and takeaway coffees,” he laughed.
“Please, spare me,” said the man who has drunk in excess of 20 schooners at the pub a week and bought his smoko and lunch out his entire adult life.
“My wife used to pack me lunch on Mondays, for example,” continued the man who bought his first place for $27,000 on a $19,000 dollar a year wage back in 1977.
“And interest rates weren’t at rock bottom then, let me tell you.”
“So, these kids need to realise how easy they’ve got it and start giving up things like their fancy Instagram lettuce brunches,” finished the man who lives in a suburb where the medium house price is 1.21 million, and the average wage is $72,000 a year.
“Stop whinging and start working!”
