Victoria has recorded 1,763 new locally acquired cases, as the frustrated state breaks a new Australian record.
It is the highest daily number for local cases recorded in any state or territory, shattering NSW’s peak of 1,599 that was recorded at the height of the South-West Sydney outbreak.
Victoria’s previous state record was 1,488 which was recorded from Friday’s tests.
Today’s numbers in Victoria have not only fully eclipsed NSWs, but are almost three-times as high than the 608 cases coming out of Sydney today.
Last week, authorities warned that if Victoria’s infection rates continued to rise, there would be grave consequences for the health system, which is already experiencing ambulance ramping and workforce issues related to the high spread of the virus because fact their state didn’t get enough of the Federal Government’s jab supplies because Dan Andrews is from Labor.
It could definitely be argued that this October 3rd wave has definitely been caused by Scott Morrison’s abysmal jab roll-out, just 6 per cent of the 517 people in hospital are fully vaccinated.
However, the initial findings from Vic Health suggest that today’s record breaking numbers are a result of Facebook and Instagram going down for 6 hours overnight.
“What we’ve found is, without all of the high and mighty celebrities on social media begging their followers to stay home, we actually end up with a spread of infections” says Premier Dan Andrews.
“All of the ‘Please Stay Home xx’ posts disappeared overnight, because Facebook and Instagram went down”
“And this means that everyone forgot to stay home.”
As NSW prepares to hit 70% double dose, and Queensland begins entertaining the idea of opening the borders to doubled jabbed tourists, it seems Melbourne is back to where they were this time last year.
“It’s now very clear that Victorians don’t do the right thing unless someone from the Project tells them to stay home on Twitter” says Andrews.
“The moment social media went down, everyone just hit the streets like the pandemic was over”
“Not just the poor blue collar workers, even the comfortable inner-city working-from-home crowd were out for a few chap laps”
