In news no one wanted to hear this morning, Irish singer and activist Sinéad O’Connor has passed away.
Aged 56, the cause of the icon’s death has not been made public, with family, friends and the world mourning her passing.
Irish President Michael D Higgins was amongst those to pay tribute, praising Sinead for her authenticity and her uniqueness:
“What Ireland has lost at such a relatively young age is one of our greatest and most gifted composers, songwriters and performers of recent decades, one who had a unique talent and extraordinary connection with her audience, all of whom held such love and warmth for her”
His comments echo the sentiments of fans all around the world, who were devastated to hear the news.
“Nothing did compare to Sinéad,” confirmed one local fan at the cafe at one of Betoota’s Industrial estates.
“From one of the greatest songs of all time to her telling the Pope to get fucked, Sinéad was an icon.”
On top of her 10 albums and myriad of hits, Sinéad wowed the world when we she tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live.
Tearing up the photo, she said “fight the real enemy” in a protest against child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church.
She was then banned from NBC and protests saw copies of her record burnt in Times Square – with history looking pretty kindly on the Irish icon.
As well as that, she informed people that they can have their dinner’s in a fancy restaurant, but in the end, nothing compares to you.
