It’s not good news for cheap tool enthusiasts, with revelations emerging today that a fan favourite could be no more.
As various states and territories crackdown on the use of plastics in daily life, it has been confirmed today that Ozito power tools will be banned from the end of 2022.
The move comes as part of a wider ban on things like single-use plastics like bags, and will now see the power tools stripped from shelves.
Popularised in Bunnings Warehouses, the single-use tools are famous for having their motors cark it, billowing smoke, and generally just shitting themselves if used for more than 5 minutes.
Enjoyed by DIY dads who don’t take pride in having expensive pieces of equipment and apprentices who spend their tool allowances on other stuff, Ozito have been a regular source of amusement for nearly 3 decades.
However, the era looks set to be all over, as governments now ban the sale of single-use plastic tools.
Internally the company had discussed attempting to make the plastic tools thicker than 35 microns, but has abandoned the plans.
It’s not known if another brand will try to fill the niche in the market for incredibly cheap tools that melt butter.
More to come.
