Local dad, Greg Lovett (66) is having trouble reconciling the his emotions today.
On one hand, he is absolutely stoked to see the little grub Michael Ennis take to the field for the last time in his career ahead of the NRL grand final – and on the other hand, he is going to miss his unique brand of football.
“He’s a fucking grub. But he’s one of the last ones” says the old man.
“Just the cheap elbows and vicious heckle. It reminds me of when I was young,”
As a staunch Cowboys fan, Lovett says he ‘couldn’t give a fuck’ who wins today but he’ll be tuning in to watch the fairytale unfold. He says Ennis’ retirement is going to be a big blow for the game.
“I don’t think I’ve hated any modern player as much as I hate Ennis. But I’ll be barracking for Cronulla,”
“I want to see him putting dirt in their eyes, spitting, swearing. I’m gonna miss the beautiful man,”
“He’s a fucking grub, but he’s our fucking grub.”
