With a potato shortage rocking the world, sweet potato has been called in to officially bask in the starchy spotlight.
Due to unprecedented frost and wet weather, only 50% of Australian farmed potatoes have been dubbed as sellable meaning all of Australia will be short on potatoes, Liberal party leadership excepted.
At the time of writing, supermarket shelves are running low on frozen potato products and raw potatoes have increased in price due to the corporate greed that we are calling the ‘cost of living crisis’.
However, the potato shortage has not only been a boon to Irish open mic comics but to the humble sweet potato who has been called in to replace potato like a theatre understudy waiting for the lead to come down with glandular fever.
“Seriously, slice me thin, a bit of olive oil, salt and paprika on a low heat for 90 minutes and I’m as good as chips,” lied one sweet potato.
“Don’t worry about the bitter potato shortage, we’re here to stay! That’s what we call them by the way, why be bitter when you can be sweet I reckon?”
