The diplomatic fallout between Russia and Australia has escalated significantly today, with senior Russian figures making a huge announcement.
Responding to the Australian government’s move to block their embassy, Russia has revealed that it will be withdrawing all Smirnoff products from Australian bottle shops and pubs.
The huge move comes after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that the government had cancelled Russia’s lease on a block of land where it planned to build its new embassy.
The bill to cancel the lease was rapidly passed after the government received advice that the new embassy’s location posed a security threat.
Understandably, the news has not been received well by Russia, who have no cancelled all orders of their famous Russian vodka.
“There will be no Smirnoff products shipped to Australia moving forward,” said a Russian official today.
“No more cheap house mixer drinks, no more getting tanked on Double Blacks at pre-drinks,” he continued.
“It’s Little Fat Lamb for you stupid Australians who think they can just cancel our Embassy’s lease.”
Albanese and his government have yet to respond to the sanctions, which could cost the economy billions of dollars a year.
More to come.
