A young Betoota local has been handed a double edge sword this morning, after unwrapping a birthday card from her ageing grandmother.
Waking up this morning to celebrate her 20th birthday, 1st year Arts student Briana Elke-Smith is believed to be sulking after opening up an ancient form of gifting, a bank cheque from her Grandma Dorothy (83).
After ripping open the blush pink envelope and prying open a birthday card decorated with a watercolour print of a vase of flowers, Briana was dismayed to see a foreign grey slip of paper, one that can’t be directly used to buy a new vape.
“Ughhh what’s this?”, sighed Briana, turning to her Mother who was overlooking over her shoulder.
“It’s for $20 and it’s from the ANZ bank, how does that work I don’t even bank with them?”
After being given a strict set of instructions from her Mother about how to deposit the cheque into her bank account, Briana whinged to The Advocate that this whole bank cheque business appeared to be worth more trouble than the $20 value of the paper.
Speaking to our reporter, Briana said she was considering just using the grey slip to smoke a joint, had it not been for the risk of having her Nan calling her concerned that she hadn’t yet deposited the money,
“Seriously Nan’s given me a cheque for $20, it’ll cost me more just to take an Uber to the bank”, moaned Briana.
“If I knew Nan wouldn’t call me next week to check that I got it “safe and sound”, I’d honestly just smoke it as a joint and really enjoy my birthday…”
“Anyway, do you know where the closest Westpac is?”
More to come.
