A team of bored waiters have spiced up their shift this evening by running sweepstakes on the tables in their restaurant.
Packed to the rafters with couples foolish enough to book a Valentine’s Day dinner package, local Italian joint ‘Snottis’ restaurant on Betoota Wharf is heaving under the weight of romance and house merlot.
With couples securing a sitting at either the 6pm or 8pm dinner slot, it’s believed the wait staff have been busy tending to the doting eyes of couples who’ve paid $180 for a two-course meal that is about as satisfying as a microwave dinner.
Speaking to the maître d’hôtel of ‘Snotti’s’ Dom Ricci (38), the experienced restaurateur told The Advocate his team are having heaps of fun betting on the future heartbreak of those in the venue.
“We’ve got a full sweepstake running out the back, everyone betting on which couple will last until Easter,” said Dom.
“Betoota is a small place, it’ll be easy to follow up on socials to see who makes it through and who spectacularly breaks up before April.”
Asked who he’s got his money on, Dom said the hottest fling in town is likely to detonate in a catastrophic fireball in the coming weeks.
“Mate I’ve got my coin on Olivia Jackson and her new fella sitting by the window over there, he’s that new Doctor in town!”
“Charming looking bloke but I’ve heard he’s already slept with half the nurses up at the hospital, he’s got a ratbag streak in him that’s for sure.”
“She’ll find out in a few weeks, and I’ll then be taking all my winnings and his generous service tip straight to the bank!”
More to come.
