A Betoota Heights family has been plunged into turmoil this weekend after Hughseph (21) brought his new girlfriend Haeyley (20) to the family home for the first time.

What the matriarch of the family, Jane (58), was hoping would be a lovely family dinner to welcome her new potential future daughter in law and mother of her grandchildren (‘but no pressure haha’) into the fold, quickly escalated between genders and generations, when Brad (61) allegedly referred to his son’s new girlfriend as a ‘chicky babe’.

As a father of three in his 60’s, 20-year-strong owner of BH Plumbing, and someone who has never owned a twitter account, it seems Brad missed the memo that the words ‘chick’ and ‘babe’ are no longer accepted as a denomination from men for the fairer sex.

The family’s two daughters Maya (23) and Angela (18) were the first to alert the family to this foible.

“Oh my god dad gross!”

“She has a name!”

“What is this the 1950’s?!”

Confused and bewildered, Brad was then quickly educated on the fact that ‘chicky babe’ stopped being a compliment for women 15-20 years ago, and has now been replaced with terms like ‘strong’ and ‘the person’s first name’.

When asked to comment on the scandal, Haeyley lowered her voice and said ‘I’m too new to form alliances in this family yet. Get back to me in a couple of weeks and I’ll know where I stand on it’.

Dejected, Brad then sighed and imposed a self-banishment to the Good Room to watch The Bill, where things still made sense.
