When it comes to hosting a dinner for mates, one must tread a fine line with providing adequate appetisers to curb hunger but not letting everyone fill up too fast that it spoils the meal.
Unfortunately for local couple John Bates and Ellie Reynolds, this can come down to something as simple as whether you opt for brie cheese or a dip, or the choice in biscuits – with water crackers being an ideal middle ground, seeing as they’re both thin and pair well with anything.
However, not wanting to opt for the ‘povo crackers’ as Ellie had delicately put it, the couple had agreed to splash out six bucks on the slightly polarising fig and pecan crackers. A decision that proved very unwise.
As the Donald Trump of dense crackers, these bad boys pretty much have the filling power of roughly three Sakatas, which combined with triple cream brie, can quickly have guests no longer interested in the pot roast that’s been braising for a few hours. Much to the chagrin of John, who’d appointed his girlfriend on snack duty.
Though their guests did try to make a gallant effort to pick at the roast, the couple is said to have been gifted with plenty of leftovers for tomorrow.
More to come.
