A local man has been able to crack the rental code this year, after realising that he may able to evade the landlord’s notice if he just keeps his head down.
Similar to being a kid staying super still to stop their parents from noticing that they’ve stayed up past their bedtime, Anthony Yusef [33] says the secret to not been hitting with a whopping increase in rent is to simply never, ever contact your landlord.
Even if the house is completely falling apart and becoming a hazard to your health.
Anthony explains that trying to get your landlord to fix maintenance issues will likely result in them trying to offset the costs with a 25% rental increase, so he’s happy to just deal with a house that is slowly falling apart around him.
Plus, it’s teaching Anthony the crucial skill of learning how to improvise! He explains more to our reporter.
“Yeah so the oven carked it a couple of months ago but I have an air fryer so it’s fine”, he laughs, “and I actually think the air fryer is better.”
“The dishwasher broke, but that’s just a luxury so that’s fine!”
“There’s also a roof leak in the middle of the lounge room but I can just put a bucket under that. And the black mould is only contained to the bathroom, so at least it’s not in my room!”
“It’ll be okay.”
