A local muso has elevated himself to a God-like status after playing his friends a weird non-Johnny Cash version of the song ‘Hurt’.
Released in 2003, Hurt was the last charting release by American country and rock performer Johnny Cash before his death later that year.
The music video accompanying the song is packed with heartstring yanking images of an elderly Johnny and June amongst the wreckage of the derelict House of Cash museum. The music video won a Grammy Award for Best Music Video and the title of the four saddest minutes of karaoke nights.
However, according to music intellectual Arnold Magnus (23) we have all been conned because (warning for sensitive readers) Hurt by Johnny Cash is no more than a cover and he has proof.
“Prepare to have your minds blown; it’s originally by Nine Inch Nails,” stated Magnus, unaware his friends also have access to Google.
“Well, it’s by Trent Reznor really. Reznor WAS Nine Inch Nails, sort of like Tame Impala.”
“Actually, do you guys know how Tame Impala works?”
Magnus then went on to tell the story of Reznor hearing Cash’s cover for the first time, but with none of the brevity that the second paragraph of the Wikipedia article gets across.
At the time of writing, Magnus has not told his friends he found out about the original version of Hurt via Rick and Morty.
