A local couple have made a small detour on the way home this evening, stopping into a chargrilled chicken establishment for a 2nd dinner.
Driving home from a friends dinner party in Betoota Heights, it’s understood young couple Amy and Matt McWilliams have veered their Mazda CX-5 off Dwyer Drive, and slipped into the Super Rooster drive-thru next to the Lockyer Street petrol station.
Nodding with approval as her boyfriend flicked on the car’s left side indicator, it’s understood tonight’s desire to order half a chook and chips was due to a rather unsatisfactory dinner party.
“We went to Mick and Jamié’s for dinner tonight and the whole thing was inspired by that Ottolenghi bloke” whined Amy.
“I guess we were hoping they’d throw a few kebabs on the BBQ and do a potato bake, but instead they served up tiny portions of fancy middle eastern stuff.”
After sipping through a chilled courgette, pea and basil soup for entree, baked eggplant and yoghurt for mains and a fig and pistachio tartlet the size of a 50 cent piece for dessert, the couple told The Advocate they were stinging for a proper feed.
“We would have eaten more if it was on the table, but for Mick and Jaime apparently serving up half a burnt zucchini and some pomegranate seeds is a perfectly acceptable dinner!”
Slowing up right next to the Super Rooster intercom, witnesses say a hungry Matt McWilliams took charge to rectify the couple’s rumbling stomachs.
“G’Day, yep can we get half a chook and chips, two pineapple fritters and a large coleslaw thanks…”
“And add 10 nuggets as well.”
Glumly opening his wallet to cough up $26 for a second meal, Matt told our reporter that he’d be far kinder when he next hosts his friends for dinner.
“When we left they said it was our turn next, I can tell you now I’ll be putting a suckling on the spit and it’ll be pork and gravy rolls for dinner.”
“They won’t be leaving my place hungry!”
