In news south of the border, an adorable lolly shop in the Southern Highlands of NSW has once again raked it in this weekend after rinsing tourists for some stale chocolates.

Nestled between a handmade candle store and a luxury ugg boot maker, Cobblers Chocolate Co. is a beautifully presented shop which has been selling sweet treats to the people of Mittabong for the last 65 years.

A fairy floss scented store that sells everything from handmade nougats to musk sticks to white-chocolate coated apricots, it’s believed Cobblers continues to make bank thanks to its old-timey charm, and the fact it’s the one store in town tourist yuppies can coax their kids into and know they’ll be entertained for at least 15 minutes.

But after a recent visit from our reporter, it can be confirmed that the store thrives off its ability to guilt tourists into buying chocolate because they think it’ll be rude to browse a small business for more than five minutes and not buy a single item, or feel like they might get accused of shoplifting.

However, with most of the store selling items with a clear tourist tax stacked on top, it can be revealed the only thing in the shop under $10 are the bags of stale chocolate freckles which sit close to the counter.

Speaking to another tourist outside the store, Campbelltown man Ned Kerrigan (38), it’s believed the shop has this afternoon trapped another one.

“Mate I brought my kids to Mittabong for a day trip, next minute I’m herding cats in there, making sure my sons don’t break any of the jars of Sour Worms cos the sweet old lady at the counter is charging them at $66 per kilo.”

“And I can’t be a tight ass and buy one box of Nerds though can I? I’ve got to go the handmade route and get some choccies in a crafted ribbon-tied bag and support local, the old hag has really stitched me up!”

More to come.
