The brightest light in the Australian rugby union tanning bed has laughed off suggestion that his team can beat the All Blacks in Dunedin next week, saying that they can only do their best.
Wallabies Coach Michael Cheika spoke to the media this morning in Sydney, where he was asked what went wrong last night at the boys in gold went down 54-34 to the All Blacks last night.
“Mate, it was a pretty weird game, wasn’t it?” said Cheika.
“I mean, getting 54 put on you is bad, like fucking bad. But putting 34 on the Kiwis is an achievement in itself. So yeah, next week? [laughs] We’ll try our best, I guess,”
“You’d need a good team of dogs and some quiet cattle to put the All Blacks in the pen down there. It’ll be hard but I’m not about to sit here and piss in your pocket and say we’re going to win.”
The Wallabies take on the All Blacks next week in Dunedin in what pundits are calling a do or die clash for Australian rugby, which is now less popular nationally than darts and billiards.
More to come.
